Comparing the Three Hotels at Crown Melbourne for Group Stays
When we organise a group stay at Crown Melbourne, the first operational decision is choosing between the complex's three properties. Crown Resorts states the resort offers over 1,600 rooms across Crown Towers, Crown Metropol, and Crown Promenade. Because each hotel has distinct room categories, facilities, and entry points on Southbank, matching your group to the right tower simplifies arrivals and daily logistics.

How the Three Properties Sit Within the Complex
All three hotels share the same complex address at 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank, Victoria. However, they function with separate front desks, phone lines, and rooming inventories. When we handle group requests through how group bookings work, we ensure individual guests arrive at the correct desk to avoid walking between towers with luggage.
By secondary sources, the room distribution across the site is split into 481 rooms at Crown Towers, 658 rooms at Crown Metropol, and 465 rooms at Crown Promenade. The complex sits on the south side of the Yarra River within walking distance of Flinders Street Station across the river. For groups flying into Victoria, our guide to getting a group there covers transport options.
While guests can move internally between venues, each property maintains its own room categories, check-in desks, pool environments, and gym facilities.
Crown Towers Melbourne
Crown Towers is the flagship luxury property within the complex. Secondary sources record 481 rooms and villas across 38 floors. Published room categories include Deluxe King Room, Deluxe Twin Room, Premier King Room, Premier Twin Room, and Studio Room. Its suite and villa collection includes the Executive Suite, Executive Club Suite, Premier Suite, and several styles of Villas offering private butler service and private express elevators.
For group delegates with lounge access, the Crystal Club on Level 3 operates daily from 6:30am to 9:30pm. It provides complimentary breakfast (6:30am–11am weekdays, 7am–12pm weekends), afternoon tea (2pm–4pm), and pre-dinner drinks with canapés (5pm–7:30pm).
Wellness facilities at Crown Towers feature a 25-metre heated indoor pool with day beds, described by the resort as one of the largest indoor swimming pools in Australia. The split-level gymnasium is reserved exclusively for hotel guests and Crown Spa Club Members. The complex's dedicated Crown Spa is also situated on Level 3 of Crown Towers, offering treatments alongside its Aqua Retreat facility. A press release dated 22 February 2026 announced that the Crown Towers lobby bar will undergo transformation, reopening in early 2027.
Crown Metropol Melbourne
Crown Metropol sits on the southern edge of the precinct. Secondary sources list 658 rooms over 28 floors, making it the largest of the three hotels by room count. Standard published room categories are Luxe King Room, Luxe Twin Room, City Luxe Room, and Urban Luxe Room, alongside larger layouts named The Loft and The Apartment.
Recreational spaces are concentrated on the upper levels. Metropol features an indoor swimming pool on the 27th floor alongside a gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment. It does not house a dedicated spa facility. At ground level, the Metropol Precinct provides group activity spaces including a bowling alley, karaoke bar, mini golf, and an arcade.
According to the resort's February 2026 announcement, Crown Metropol's 28th floor will debut as an exclusive private events destination in May 2026. Organisers comparing layout options can read our detailed breakdown on Crown Metropol for group itineraries.
Crown Promenade Melbourne
Crown Promenade is positioned as a 4.5-star hotel over 23 floors, with secondary sources noting 465 rooms. Room options include Standard King Room, Standard Twin Room, Standard City View King Room, Standard City View Twin Room, Corner King Room, Studio Room, Two Bedroom Studio, and Suite.
The property includes an indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, and an on-site Business Centre. A notice published on the hotel page indicates that the Promenade pool and gym are subject to scheduled maintenance closures from Monday 13 July to Tuesday 1 September (year not published by the resort); during these periods, registered Promenade guests are directed to the Crown Towers or Crown Metropol pool and gym facilities.
Crown Promenade directly connects to the Crown Conference Centre, which offers a combined 7,350 square metres of event space across Levels 1 and 3. Further event details appear in our guide to theatre and event spaces across the complex.
Check-In Policies and Operational Rules
Check-in and check-out times are uniform across all three properties. Standard check-in begins at 3:00pm, and check-out is required by 11:00am. The resort explicitly publishes that late check-out is not available on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, school holidays, special events, or during periods of high occupancy. Where available on weekday periods, late check-out may incur an additional fee.
All three hotels share access to two major car parks containing over 5,000 spaces. Car parks operate on a fully cashless basis using credit cards, debit cards, or Crown Rewards cards. Valet parking is accessed via the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street for a daily fee, with potential event surcharges applying on major event days at Marvel Stadium or the AFL.
Under Victorian law, access to the physical casino floor inside the complex is strictly limited to adults aged 18 and over. Australia bans online casino play, and gambling on site requires carded play with daily and weekly limits under VGCCC regulations. Free, confidential 24/7 support is available via Gambler's Help on 1800 858 858.
